Clinton Global Initiative University
Carl has been accepted to represent UCLA at the CGIU conference held this year on the campus of Arizona State
University. As a student leader, he will present his ACE initiative
for review and funding opportunities. This new program expands the
benefits of chess to minority and underrepresented students
throughout the LA area.

UCLA Chess gets Reactivated
UCLA students and brothers revive both the Chess Club and Chess Team on campus. The pair is leading and training students this year in hopes of attracting more undergraduates to join the club and compete in tournaments.

National AP Scholar!
This academic distinction is the highest level of
achievement in the AP ranking system It is granted only
to those students who receive an average score of at
least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher
on eight or more of these exams. Less than 1% of all
students who take the AP tests earn this award.
Bioengineering!
After sifting through many admission letters and scholarship offers, Carl has decided to pursue a Bioengineering degree as a direct admit to the UCLA Henry Samueli
School of Engineering and Applied Science. With just a
15% admittance rate, this program is a perfect fit for
excellent applicants from all around the world.

Known for awarding scholarships to students who are leaders and achievers, this General Motors Foundation has recognized Carl for his exceptionally strong high school record of accomplishment in the fields of math and science.
It's UCLA!
Carl has finally chosen a university for his undergraduate education. After sifting through many admission letters and scholarship offers, Carl has decided to pursue a Bioengineering degree as a direct admit to the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science.
2013 National Merit Finalist!
Results are in! Carl's outstanding PSAT score places him in the Top 1% of 1.5 million high school students from all across the country. He will now have his pick from many of the best universities in the country such as UTD and ASU for a 4 year full-ride scholarship.
Food for Thought
Carl
is gearing up for his annual Checkmate Hunger Campaign,
a canned goods drive benefiting the Idaho Food Bank.
This year, he is planning to grow the donation amount by
empowering each one of his students to play chess for
sponsorship at the upcoming State Chess Championships. Watch
